James T. Lindsay, age 86 of LaCrosse, died Thursday, March 27, 2008. James T. Lindsay, age 86 of LaCrosse, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Onalaska Care Center. He was born on August 10, 1921 in LaCrosse to James T. and Esther Mollie (Naas) Lindsay. Jim graduated from Logan High School in 1939 where he was the salutatorian. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1941 Jim played football at St. Marys Pre Flight in San Diego, CA. He would go on to become a pilot and was honorably discharged in 1947. On June 21, 1947 he was united in marriage to Dolores "Pinky" Rudrud. Jim was a finishing carpenter, building the home that he and Pinky shared. He built homes for Raymond Brothers in the LaCrosse area for 24 years before moving on to work for Peter Nelson Construction . Jim retired at the age of 62 . An avid hunter and fisherman, Jim loved the out of doors and was very interested in wildlife preservation. He also loved the river and knew all of its tributaries and inlets. Many happy hours were spent on the river under the guise of fishing . Jim and Pinky very much enjoyed dancing and spent many happy hours with friends. Jim had been a member of the Elks Club , Masons, Carpenters Union and the American Legion. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in LaCrosse. In addition to his wife, Dolores "Pinky" of LaCrosse; Jim is survived by two daughters: M a ry (Harley) Schlachter of Naperville, IL and Sara (Dave) Hinrichs of Minnetonka, MN; two step-grandchildren: Matthew Hinrichs and Laura Hinrichs. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Knutson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill Street in LaCrosse. Pastor Stephan Sandness will officiate. Interment will be at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials to the LaCrosse Humane Society or Ducks Unlimited would be appreciated. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
