Jane K. Kolstad

Jane K. Kolstad, age 85, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16th, 2024, at her home with her husband of 62 years by her side, per her wishes. She was born on October 17th, 1938, in Viroqua to Clair and Florence (Kinder) Morrison. Jane grew up in rural Viroqua and graduated from Viroqua High School. She worked at the drive-in restaurant on the south end of Viroqua, where she met her future husband, Orlan Kolstad. They were married on November 25th, 1961. They lived in La Crosse and Cedar Rapids, IA, before moving to the Kolstad family farm (Folsom) in 1976. During her life, she worked at a factory in Cedar Rapids, Ted & Fred’s Grocery while on the farm, and finally in Sussex, WI, until her retirement.

She and Orlan were blessed with two wonderful boys, David and Douglas. They gave her great joy and laughter, which carried over to her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She loved dogs, cats, bird watching, and morels.

Survivors include her husband, Orlan; her two sons, David (Mary) Kolstad and Douglas (Carmen) Kolstad; her grandchildren, Jacob, Jeremiah, Aaron, Anna, Austin, Joergen, and Johannah; two brothers, Clair (Lila) Morrison Jr., and Norman (Zelda) Morrison; other relatives and friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Kenneth “Mike” (Bonnie) Fish, her sisters, Beverly (George) Phetteplace, and Joan (Earl) Morkrid.

Jane’s family would like to thank Jane’s 24-hour caregiver, Orlan. Nobody could have done a better job. Also, a special thanks to Gundersen Lutheran Hospice for the outstanding care they provided.
