Janice Ruth (Olson) Parker, age 92 of Viroqua, died Friday July 20, 2018. Janice Ruth (Olson) Parker, 92, of Viroqua, WI died Friday, July 20th, 2018 at Vernon Manor, Viroqua, WI. She was born in Vernon County rural Westby to Martin and Esther (Thompson) Olson on September 12, 1925. She graduated from Westby High School, then attended the Vernon County Normal School where she received her teaching degree. She also earned a Bachelor of Education from the UW of La Crosse in 1964. She taught in rural schools (Brown School, Mills School and Davis School / Viroqua Area) as well as Viroqua Elementary School for a total of 34 years. She married Cecil Parker on November 2, 1946 at Bethel Church by Rev. O.M. Kleven. They farmed near the Bethel Church for 45 years. After which they moved to Viroqua in 1991. Janice has been active in serving the Bethel Church as Sunday School teacher, bible school, church council, ladies aid and missions. She held offices in the Retired Educators including 2 years as President. She was also a blood donor until 80 years old with a total of 12 gallons given. She has enjoyed her many years volunteering at Vernon Manor for close to 30 years, Vernon Memorial Hospital and clinic. She is survived by her daughters: Susan Jensen and Mary (David) Eggen; grandchildren: Justin (Jessica) Eggen and Jay (Amanda) Jensen; great grandchildren: Philip, Claire, Lillian, Leo Eggen and Madysan and Karl Jensen; sister in laws: Deloris, Garnet, Donna, Jan, Belva, and Beverly; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil and brother Winsten. Family would like to especially thank Pastor Pete and Deloris for weekly devotions, moms card buddies Edith and Betty, her neighbor Judy, Randy Sordahl for lawn care, and the staff at Vernon Manor who were so kind and took special care of her. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Bethel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Pete Beckstrand will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
