Jared Timothy Fortney

Jared Timothy Fortney, age 28 of Viola, Wisconsin passed away Saturday, February 4, 2006 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born January 3, 1978 in Viroqua, Wisconsin to Atley James (Jim) Fortney, Jr. and Vickie (Sheldon) Fortney. Jared had a great love of auto mechanics from the time he was a young boy. His mechanical ability came to him naturally, by the age of 10 he was performing diagnostic and repair work on cars, trucks and motorcycles. He became a very skilled mechanic without any formal training. At the time of his death he was employed by Sheldons Auto Wrecking of Viroqua. One of his greatest joys was working alongside of his grandfather, Atley Fortney steaming tobacco beds for area farmers. He continued to operate that business after his grandfathers death and was proud that he could keep the old Case tractor and steaming truck in running order. He enjoyed being in the woods and cutting firewood. He also loved animals, in particular his dog, Bear and his cat, Dukie. Jared had many friends and was happy to help them, whenever they needed him. He is survived by his parents, five brothers, James of LaCrescent, MN, Jason (Cori), Jeremy, Cole, and Logan all of Viroqua, his paternal grandmother Helen Jane Fortney of Readstown, three nieces Cody, Eloise and Estelle Fortney, and two nephews, Brecken and Cannen Fortney, his special friend Amanda Clark and her two daughters Kaylee and Jasmine, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Maynard and Stella Sheldon of Viroqua, and his paternal grandfather Atley G. Fortney, Sr. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. The Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum will officiate with burial in the Readstown Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Tuesday after 12:00 noon at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Virqoua.
