Jay M. Johnson, 52 of Viroqua, died Monday, January 9, 2012. Jay M Johnson, 52 of Viroqua, our dear brother, uncle and friend passed away on January 9, 2012 at his home. Jay was born to Loren B. and Mary Jo (Longworth) Johnson on March 24, 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mark Johnson. Jay is survived by his sister Terri (Beannie) Hanson, nephews Ben (Lisa) Johnson and Eric (Christine) Hanson, nieces Stacie (Randy) Giraud, and Elizabeth (Robin) Godolphin. He is also survived by his great-nephews and nieces, Alyson, Evan, Matthew, Alex, Nick (Kelsey), Schannel and Randall; and many friends and relatives. Jay was confirmed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in 1973 and graduated from Viroqua High School in 1977. He was a long time and loyal employee of De Lap Oil and Gas in Viroqua. Growing up Jay enjoyed participating in football, hockey and track. He later played adult hockey and coached a junior team. He was a racing enthusiast and was a long time follower of Dick Trickle. Jay spent many hours boating on the Mississippi river with family and friends. He loved his "Harley" and was able to spend hours riding last summer. Jay had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He would want to be remembered in a boat or on his motorcycle with his Ray-Bans on and with a big smile. He believed in God and His grace. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. In Lieu of flowers or plants memorials are preferred. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The Reverend Margaret Eiben Hoversten will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (hwy 56), in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
