Jean Ann Wolenec, age 89, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and devotion to family and community. She was born December 19, 1936, to Clifford and Nora (Anderson) Phillips and passed away June 1, 2026.
Jean lived most of her life in Viroqua, where she became a familiar and friendly face through her work at several local businesses. She genuinely enjoyed meeting people and formed many lasting friendships through the years. Her warm smile, caring nature, and ability to connect with others made her a beloved member of the community.
She was united in marriage to Norman Brudos in 1956, and they had five children. Jean was the loving mother of Cheryl Sime (Monte), Rebecca Sorensen, Steven Brudos (deceased at three months of age), Gregory Brudos (Iris), and Lori Reget (Pat).
In 1987, Jean remarried to David Wolenec. Together they shared many happy years filled with companionship, adventure, and travel. As her health allowed, Jean and Dave enjoyed exploring new places and creating treasured memories together. She rarely traveled without her camera and found great joy in capturing the beauty of the world through her photographs.
Jean's greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her grandchildren, Brooke Sime, Phillip Sime, Megan Conrad, and Shelby Rose. Jean was also blessed with three great-grandchildren who brought her much happiness and pride. Through her marriage to David, she welcomed her stepson, Brian Wolenec (Cara), into her life and his children, Jonathan and Jessica. She is further survived by two sisters: Joan Foster, and Sharon (Clair) Aspenson.
A woman of strong faith, Jean was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua, where she was the hub of the church circles and valued the fellowship and friendships she found there. She also dedicated her time to serving others as a member of the hospital auxiliary.
Jean found peace and satisfaction in tending her flower and vegetable gardens. She delighted in watching things grow and took pride in the beauty she created around her home. She was also a devoted dog lover who opened her heart to several rescue dogs over the years, giving them loving homes and faithful companionship.
Those who knew Jean will remember her gentle spirit, her love of conversation, and her genuine interest in others. Whether sharing stories with friends, caring for her flower and vegetable gardens, traveling with Dave, or spending time with family, she embraced life's simple blessings with gratitude and grace.
Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Brudos; her infant son, Steven; her granddaughter, Stephanie Haakenson; as well as other family members and close friends.
