Jeffrey Todd Matson, age 58, of Stoddard, passed away unexpectedly at home on September 14, 2024.
Jeff was born to Jerrold and Hilda (Sidie) Matson on Hilda’s birthday, April 8, 1966, in Chateauroux, France. During his early years, the family moved around due to Jerrold’s Air Force career until he retired and came back to their hometown of Viroqua. Jeff graduated from Viroqua High School in 1984. He married his sweetheart, Stacy Gardner, on May 28, 1994. They started a family with Alan being born in 2002 and Otto in 2005.
Jeff had numerous different jobs in his lifetime. The longest being a volunteer/first responder on the Stoddard Bergen Fire Department and as a guard at Dairyland Power Plant in Genoa until health issues forced retirement from being a guard and after 31 years from the fire department. Jeff served as secretary and treasurer for many years in the department as well as being an engineer, which was a passion that he taught a few about.
His love for music carried through to his two sons and both played tuba just like he did. He was so proud. He enjoyed watching movies and spending time with his family and close friends. Jeff was also a member of the Foundation at the fire department and a member of Liberty Pole Methodist Church.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Stacy; sons, Alan and Otto; sisters, Shelley Matson and Christie Oneal; brothers-in-law, Darin Gardner and Rick Gratz; sisters-in-law, Tammy Gardner and Martha Matson; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and some close friends.
He was preceded in death by his six children: Todd, Sabrina, Chris, Andy, Mary, and Hope; his parents; grandparents; brother, Michael Matson; sister, Terri (Matson) Gratz; brothers-in-law, Brian Gardner and Martin Oneal; as well as aunts and uncles.
