Jennifer Maria Mulhausen, age 37, of Westby, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021. She was born December 26, 1983, in La Crosse to Peder and Sherri (Burkhow) Ellefson. Jennifer will be known for the love, compassion and kindness she extended to others. While she was limited physically, she was always thinking of others and offering encouragement. Jenn had an incredible sense of humor and a great love for animals. As a child, she could be found with bunnies under her bed and had a bird named Zorba that let itself out of its cage and found its way to her shoulder. Later in life, she and her husband, Derek fostered baby ducks and kittens. She was a medical genius and was active on medical advice forums. With little formal medical training, she often out-diagnosed doctors and even saved lives with her medical research. She was a talented photographer and nurtured her love of photography with her husband, Derek. She had a dream to start a martial arts program for children with disabilities and wanted to show the children they could do more than they believed through martial arts. She was a woman’s self-defense instructor and helped hundreds of women gain confidence in themselves. Jenn was also very artistic. She loved going out on the river, kayaking, skiing, and rollerblading. Her love of the Bible and Scripture helped guide her life. She always had a relevant scripture for anyone that was struggling with anything. She was a gifted musician and played many instruments. Jenn was the most incredible woman Derek has ever met. She excelled in everything that she tried and went after it with everything she had. Survivors include her husband, Derek; her mother, Sheri; her father, Peder (Kelly) Ellefson; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Arlene Mulhausen; her sister-in-law, Cari (Joel) Sallander; her grandfather, Rueben Ellefson; aunts and uncles, Tom, Dan (Karen) and Barb (George); step-sister, Jessie; step-brothers, Tyler and Lucas; several cousins; special friends, Larry Klahn and Dr. James Feltes; other relatives and friends.
