Jerry Johnson, 70, of Seneca, died Friday, August 8, 2014. Jerry (Jerald) O. Johnson of Seneca, WI, died Friday, August 8 at University Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN with his family at his side. He was born to Robert Q. and Avis (Wheeler) Johnson on February 21, 1944 in Prairie du Chien, WI. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1962. He attended Madison Business College for a short time before returning to the family business in Seneca. He married his high school sweetheart, Trudy Caya on July 27, 1963, in Lynxville, WI. Together they welcomed three children: Bradley (Gretchen), Artell (Deborah) and Julie (Daniel) Wollman; Seven Grandchildren: Zachary and Jennifer Johnson, Brandon, Jordan, and Thomas Johnson, and Caya and Katherine Wollman. Jerry and Trudy owned and operated Johnsons One Stop Shopping Center in Seneca, started by his parents in 1937. Jerry and Trudy retired in 2009. He took deep pride in serving on the Board of Directors for United Hardware, The Seneca Education Foundation, and The Seneca Veterans Memorial Committee. In addition to his Children and Grandchildren, he is survived by his Sister Janice Hegge of Spring Grove, MN, his Brother-in-Law Todd (Dianne) Caya of Marble Falls, TX, Nieces, Nephews, and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother Jeffrey and Brother-in-Law Owen Hegge. A life long member of Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church and a man of deep faith in God, he loved his family, his friends, his community, and spending time with his horses. Our family takes great comfort in knowing that others will be able to look to the future with hope because of our Dads courageous participation in cancer research. Our gratitude to Drs. Bottner and Chalasani of Gundersen Medical Center for the tremendous care they have shown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church, Seneca Veterans Memorial, or the American Cancer Society. A Celebration of his life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday August 13, 2014 at the Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church. Pastor Nile Sandeen will officiate with burial to follow in the Mt. Sterling Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills on Tuesday August 12, 2014 from 4-7 PM. They may also call at the church on Wednesday from 10AM till the time of service at 11. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Gays Mills is serving the family.
