Jerry Lloyd DeWitt, age 65 of rural Westby, passed away early Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wi after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Bloomingdale to Bert and LaVonne (Mossholder) DeWitt on November 19, 1940. He grew up in and around the Viroqua area and graduated from Viroqua High School. On March 23, 1963 he married Elaine Mikkelson. He worked for Gardner Baking Co. of Richland Center and later as a co-owner of DeWitt Construction. Jerry had a great love of the outdoors, spending a lot of time 4 wheeling on his 35 acres, keeping track of deer, turkeys and other wild life and hunting mushroom. Every deer hunting season for 40 years was spent at the family hunting cabin near Herbster, WI and hunting in the national forest wit his father and his son and other family members. He loved to play cards and tell stories. In his later years, Jerry became an avid golfer and his brothers (in law) say he was very good. He will always be cherished by his family for being fun loving and entertaining with his wonderful dry sense of humor, but also his deep caring and commitment for things important to him. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; three children, Kelly (Rob) Schlicht of Milwaukee, Joel (Karen) of Westby, and Kacey (Sara Hauck) of Westby; seven grandchildren: Joshua, Lyssa (Lance) Reynolds, Brandon and Keegan of Westby, Dakota of Milwaukee, and Alex and Haley of Marshfield, and one great-grandson, Nickolai Reynolds of Westby. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Myer (Richard Inman), his niece, Lisa (Sid) Widner and their two children, Lucas and Rachel; and nephew, Bradley; as well as many , many other relatives and close friends. He will be welcomed home by his mom and dad; his brothers-in-law, LeMont Myer, Arden, Charles and Jerry David Mikkelson; aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Blessed be his memory.
