Jo Ann Sather, age 55, died Friday February 17, 2017 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Jo A. Sather, 55, of Viroqua, WI, went to the Lord on February 17, 2017 at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua, Wisconsin after many years of battling Multiple Sclerosis. She was born in Topeka, KS, on October 28th, 1961, to William W. Wilmerton and Dorothy J. Hunt. She is survived by her twin children; daughter, Caylea Sather and son, Christopher Sather. She is also survived by her father, William Wilmerton, and his wife Charlotte Wilmerton; three brothers, Bill, Keith, and Rick Wilmerton; their spouses, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy J. Hunt, on April 7th, of 2007. Jo graduated from Evergreen High School in 1979 and then continued her education at the University of Montana. She later married Kevin Sather in 1996 and they spent eleven years together. Jo and Kevin had two beautiful twin children on April 14th, 1997; Caylea and Christopher Sather. Jo was a homemaker, and loved spending time with her children. In her spare time Jo enjoyed being outdoors; hiking, spending time in the water, and building things. Jo was also a skilled carver and spent a lot of time carving figures. She enjoyed reading books, playing hand drums, and knitting hats for newborn babies. She and Christopher would go to a local improv group every week. In 2005 Jo and her friend, Christine Harrington started a support group for people who had disabilities called Beyond the Challenge. Together they taught others how to overcome their disabilities and how to deal with their chronic illnesses. Helping others understand that they were not alone. Jo loved to help other people overcome their struggles, and taught them how to be strong regardless of what their bodies limited them to. Jo never let her disability stop her from doing what she loved the most. Even before she needed a wheelchair she was fighting for the rights of those who were disabled. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 4th, at Viroqua Church of Christ, 825 S. Nelsons Parkway Dr. Viroqua, WI 54665. Pastor Ray Matteson will officiate. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a time of sharing and remembrance, with refreshments and food immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St. in Viroqua is serving the family.
