Joan Dahlen, 92, of Westby, died Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Joan Elaine (DeWitt) Dahlen, age 92 of Westby, died Wednesday, March 27, 2019. She was born on February 9, 1927 in Webster Township, Vernon County, Wisconsin to Russell Storer DeWitt and Doris Evelyn (Wiganowsky) DeWitt. On June 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to Arthur O. Dahlen and they lived in the Westby area all their lives. Upon graduating from Westby High School and Vernon County Normal, she taught in rural schools for several years. She was then Librarian/Director at the (Westby Public Library) Bekkum Memorial Library for 36 years. Joan was a member of Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, held several positions in the WELCA and Dorcas Circle, taught Sunday School, and was a Cub Scout Den Leader. She was very proud of her family and their many accomplishments. Joan enjoyed sewing, reading, playing cards with friends, working crossword puzzles, collecting dogs and carousels and baking their favorite birthday cakes for her family. She and Art danced many miles during their lifetime, and also liked to travel. "Art is waiting for me in Gods flower garden with a beautiful bouquet of red roses, and then we will dance the hours away in our heavenly home." Joan is survived by three children: Randy (Betty) of Westby, Lynn of Westby and Jerry (Terri) of Monroe; three grandchildren: Kory (Ashley), Karlee (Tom), and Laura; six great-grandchildren: Ava and Even Dahlen, Elise and Gwyneth Wallin, and Blake and Paige Steinmann; one brother, R. Dean (Lola Mae) DeWitt of Joliet, IL; a nephew, Larry (Kim) DeWitt of Bourbonnais, IL; sister-in-law, Evelyn Dahlen; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Lonny Dean, infant niece, Mary Jo, her husband, Arthur in 1997, brothers-in-law: Ralph Dahlen, Stanley Struxness, James Dahlen Norman Dahlen and Luell Hoff; sisters-in-law: Myrtle Dahlen, Eva Struxness, Edna Dahlen, Ruth Hoff; niece, Karen Tischer, nephew DeVerne Struxness, and special aunt, Berna Hentschel. Blessed be our memory of Joan Elaine Dahlen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Daniel Wollman will officiate with burial in the Moen Cemetery. Friends may call during a visitation at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
