Joanne A. (Aspenson) Lind age 79 of Viroqua, died Sunday, March 27, 2011. Joanne Alene (Aspenson) Lind passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on, Sunday March 27th after a courageous battle with amyloidosis. She was born on March 25, 1932 the 6th of 7 children to Emerth and Judith (Lewis) Aspenson in rural Ferryville WI. She was baptized and confirmed at Utica Lutheran Church. She attended Tully country school, graduated from Seneca High School and graduated from Vernon County Normal school with a teaching degree. She then taught for the Crawford county school district for 5 years. On December 21, 1955, Joanne was married to Charles A. Lind of rural Viroqua and waited for her husband to return from military service before moving to his family farm on Highway 56 in 1957 to start their life together. There, Joanne and Charles farmed and raised many crops, pigs, chickens, tobacco, dairy cows and their seven children in which she found much joy and happiness throughout their 55 years together. She assisted her family in helping in their many activities instilling strong values, a good work ethic and sense of responsibility in them. Joanne was a kind hearted person; always gave of herself and would help anyone she could. The things she valued most in life were her family, friends and faith. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Lutheran Church where she held many leadership roles in the Ladies Aid, Mary Circle, Youth and Family Leagues, Sunday School and other Church committees. She was also an active member and volunteer for the Bethel home Auxiliary, Rosebud Homemakers Club, Lucky Clovers 4-H Club and Normal School Alumni clubs. In 1983 she began her career off the farm as a cook at Country Kitchen in Viroqua for 12 years and 6 years after as a cook at Norseland Nursing Home before retiring in 2001 when Joanne and Charles sold the farm and moved to Viroqua. During retirement, they enjoyed many twilight years together taking numerous vacations, sightseeing and visiting family and friends across the country. Joanne is survived by her loving husband Charles, their children; Janice of Lunenberg MA, Carl (Joan) of Onalaska, Eric (Brenda) of rural Genoa, James of La Crosse, Mary (Andrew) Raddant of Charlotte NC, Amy (Patrick) Penchi of rural Genoa, Mark of Viroqua. 12 grandchildren; Maria of Nancy, France, Breanna and Craig of Onalaska, Renee (Zachary) Peterson of Ft. Hood Texas, Alissa(Andy) Berg of Viroqua, Kayla (Trent) Schott of Westby, Sarra of Madison, Kirsten of Lunenberg, MA, Colin and Adam Raddant of Charlotte, NC and Joseph and Jesse Penchi of Genoa. 7 Great Grandchildren; Luke, Jonathan, Kristen and Matthew Peterson of Ft. Hood Texas, Haaken and Asher Berg of Viroqua and Jaden Schott of Westby, WI. Sisters Deloris Aspenson of Viroqua, Norma (Elwood) Forde of Osseo WI, Yvonne Ausland of Torrance CA, brother Geary (Clarice) Aspenson of Viroqua and Brother in law Richard (Dorothea) Lind of Sarona, WI as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ishmael(Charlotte) Aspenson and Leroy (Evalyn) Aspenson; a nephew, Mark Aspenson; her parents in-law Adolph and Alice Lind; two brothers in law: Don Ausland and John; and a grandchild Alan. Blessed be her memory. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bad Axe Lutheran Church, rural Viroqua. Pastor Donald Greven will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesdsday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. led by Pastor Einer Unseth. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please direct all memorials to the Bad Axe Building fund, Cornerstone Christian School, Vernon Memorial Hospice or the mission of your choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
