Joanne Campbell

Joanne Mae Campbell, age 93, of Viroqua and formerly of La Farge, passed away at Bethel Home and Services on August 28, 2021. Joanne was born to Eston and Violet Major in Dell, WI on February 17, 1928. She started school at Dell Elementary, but the family soon moved to La Farge, WI where Joanne lived the rest of her life. She married her high school sweetheart, La Verne Campbell, on July 3, 1949. She taught at Kickapoo Center Elementary School for seven years. She put her teaching career on hold to raise her family of two sons, Richard (Linda) and Mark (Mindy). In her spare time, Joanne was the local Avon dealer. She prided herself on always looking fashionable in her appearance…makeup, jewelry, and outfit. She returned to the classroom in 1970, and taught for 30 years at the La Farge Elementary School. She obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in 1972, and completed her Master of Science in Education degree in 1975.Joanne’s grandchildren will attest to her being the best cook ever born. She enjoyed cooking delicious feasts for family gatherings at holiday times. Besides her husband, La Verne; sons, Richard and Mark and daughters-in-law, Linda and Mindy, Joanne’s greatest treasures were her grandchildren, Nicole Raskin (Neal), David Campbell (Jamie), and Evan Campbell; as well as her great-grandchildren, Carter Richard Beckford, Harper Joanne Raskin, and Rowan David Campbell. As a lifelong resident of La Farge, she had many close friends whom she cherished. A special thank you goes to her longtime neighbors, Bev and Paul Jacobson, who visited Joanne nearly every morning for years to share coffee and friendship; also, special friends, Verona Phillips and Bernadine Appleman. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Eston and Violet Major; her husband, La Verne; her sister, Jeanette Bold; and brothers-in-law, Melvin Teal and James Bold. She is survived by her two sons and their families and her sister, Caroline Teal. In lieu of flowers, donations to the La Farge Ambulance Program and the La Farge United Methodist Church appreciated.
