John Edwin Huschka

John Edwin Huschka, age 88, of Viroqua, died on November 24, 2011. John Edwin Huschka, age 88, of Viroqua, WI passed away peacefully at Norseland Nursing Home on November 24, 2011 with his family by his side. He was born on June 1, 1923, the son of Ray and Vera Huschka of Viroqua. He spent the last 3 years at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. John graduated from High School in 1940 and then attended Carroll College in Waukesha, WI, for 3 years. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees, and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge. He was united in marriage to Vyrus Lucille Robinson on October 31, 1945. John and Vyrus farmed for 35 years on the family farm near Viroqua. His hobbies were music, painting, hunting, fishing and he really enjoyed those hunting and fishing times with his wife, 2 sons, and friends. John played in the Viroqua City Band, and also was in the Vagabonds Dance Band, which played throughout the area for many years. When he retired from farming they moved to town and he worked for several years at Coast to Coast store, Nelsons Agri-Center, and later at Wal-Mart. His greatest joy was always spending time with his family. John is survived by his wife Vyrus of 66 years; 2 sons, Allen (Myrna) Huschka of Richland Center and John L. (Barb) Huschka of rural Viroqua; six grandchildren: Cathy (Brent) Smith of Portage, Mark (Martha) of Shakopee, MN, Kari (Eugene) Davidson of Bangor, WI, Gina (Bryan) Bethke of Madison, WI, Chris (Jessica) Huschka of rural Viroqua and Katie Huschka (Tim Elbert) of rural Viroqua. John is also survived by by his 8 great-granddaughters: Crystal, Carolyn and Colleen Smith, Addison and Lauren Huschka, Kylie and Allie Huschka, and Ashlyn Davidson; also many other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Vera Huschka. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at Viroqua United Methodist Church. Pastor Ethan Larson will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
