John Fatura

John Fatura, 86 of Viroqua and formally of Okauchee, died Monday, August 13, 2007. John Fatura, 86 of Viroqua and formally of Okauchee, died early Monday morning at Vernon Manor Nursing Home, in Viroqua. He was born in St. Paul on June 30, 1921 to John and Augusta (Stano) Machala. His dad died when he was five years old. Later, his mother married Adam Fatura, who adopted John, and they lived in Milwaukee. John was a World War II Veteran, serving in the south Pacific during the war. On February 22, 1947 he married Janice May Rubin in Milwaukee, they had two children, Richard and Susan. Because of Johns passion for fishing, they moved to Okauchee Lake in 1954. John worked for American Motors, in Milwaukee, for 30 years. Jan died on November 6, 1994. In July of 2004 John moved to Viroqua. John was a kind, generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His second love of life was fishing. John is survived by his son, Rick (Patti) of Viroqua; daughter, Susan (Bob) Eckhardt of Plymouth; grandchildren, LeeAnn Fatura of LaCrosse, Jacob Fatura of Viroqua, Wendy (Matt) Krueger of Plymouth, and Kelly (Bill) Luebke of Cleveland; great grandchildren, Nathan, Megan and Mitchell Krueger of Plymouth and Douglas and Jared Luebke of Cleveland; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Minert of Milwaukee, Bee (Marshall) Thomas of Milwaukee and Ingrid Rubin of San Rafael CA; nieces Sherry Minert, Theresa Rubin-Brady; nephews Collin Minert , Jeff Rubin, Scott Thomas and friends. "GONE FISHING" Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 16, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker Street (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. (Due to road construction, please use the parking lot entrance block south of Hwy 56.) Pastor Stephanie Steiner will officiate. Friends may call from 11:00 until the time of service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to UW Comprehensive Cancer Center, Vernon Memorial Hospital Foundation or Vernon Manor Nursing Home. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
