John "Jack" Vig, 56, of Viroqua died Saturday, September 3, 2011. Jack was born on October 25, 1954 to Edward and Rosalyn (Steinhorst) Vig in Viroqua, Wisconsin. He passed away with his family by his side on September 3, 2011 at the age of 56. Jack graduated from Viroqua High School in 1972 and UW-Eau Claire in 1976. It was there that he met the love of his life, Pamela Hupe. They were married on June 21, 1980. Jack started his accounting career in Milwaukee at Clark Oil and Refining in 1977. He transitioned to Allis Chalmers in 1978. He and Pam moved to Viroqua in 1980 where he became a partner of Thompson-Vig CPA firm in 1980. In 1984, Jack joined forces with Kiesling Associates, Madison, WI, as a partner until 2001. Jack then began his own practice, Vig & Associates, LLC and worked side by side with his business partner and friend of 31 years, Vicki Anderson. Jack had a passion for public accounting and loved the challenge of meeting deadlines and working with new and old clients. His employees and clients hold a special place in his heart. While Jack loved his career as an accountant, he is best defined as a family man and friend. Jack loved planning and going on vacations, spending time up north, golfing, attending sporting events to see his favorite teams (Packers, Badgers, and Brewers) and cherished any opportunity he had to spend time with his loved ones. Jacks presence always lit up a room. His contagious smile, laughter and jokes have always attracted people to him. Jack battled non-Hodgkins lymphoma for nearly 11 years. His attitude and hunger for knowledge regarding his health was incredible. Jack never complained or asked "Why me?" Rather, he forged ahead and was often quoted prior to his treatments saying, "Bring it. Im ready." Jack touched many lives this past summer while he fought through another stem cell transplant. While his departure from this world leaves a gaping hole for everyone who loves him, his strength, courage, perseverance and determination will forever shape those he leaves behind. As a family, we want to express our deepest gratitude to all the staff at UW Hospital in Madison who cared for him over the past three and a half months. In addition, we would like to thank the staff at Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse for their support and care over the past several years. Jack will be deeply missed by his best friend and wife of 31 years, Pamela, their two children Mark (Amanda) Vig of West Allis, WI and Gillian (Bill) Silberzahn of Wauwatosa, WI. He leaves behind his faithful canine companion and friend, Amos. He is further survived by his brothers Eric Vig of Viroqua and Jim (Laura) Vig of Cross Plains, WI. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Mildred Hupe of Marshfield, WI and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Mary (Mike) Krohn of Marshfield, WI, Margaret (Ben) Houge of Stillwater, MN, and Ronda (Randy) Brunzlick of Fremont, CA. He is the beloved uncle of several nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Rosalyn Vig and Pams father Ronald Hupe. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the family to be used for a scholarship or cancer research.
