John McDonald, 85, of Viola, died Friday, January 6, 2017. John "Jack" Kenneth McDonald was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 29th, 1929 to Clarence Kenneth and Lucille Gordon McDonald. He passed peacefully on January 6th, 2017 in Viroqua, Wisconsin. John entered the U.S. Air Force in August of 1951 in which he served for four years. John married Emma Yankse and to them a daughter, Patricia, was born. John later remarried Rebecca Milan and to them a daughter, Pam, and a son, John, were born. John re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1957 where he served an additional six years. John later remarried Audrey Novalle. John worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Rockford, Illinois in which he retired after twenty years of service. John enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid dog lover and always owned one. John is survived by two daughters and one son: Patricia (Hugh) Oliver Sr., Pam Brooks, and John C McDonald; four grandsons: Hugh (Amy) Oliver Jr., Michael Oliver, Shaun (Samantha) Oliver, and Richard Brooks; two granddaughters: Amber Brooks and Amanda McDonald; two stepchildren: Arnie (Peggy) Meyer and Deb (Jim) Frazier; four step-grandchildren: Dustin and Jessica Meyer, and Amy and Bill Frazier; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and two sisters: Ruth Oliver and Alma (Chuck Green) VanLeuven. John was preceded in death by his parents; his former wives: Emma, Rebecca, and Audrey; his sisters: Norma Smith, Mary Bates, and Betty Hanson; a brother, Tommy, in infancy; three brothers-in-law: Theodore Oliver, Robert Hanson, and William Bates. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Manning Cemetery.
