John O. Allness

John O. Allness, age 81 of Viroqua, died on Friday, May 12, 2006 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital after a massive stroke. He was born on January 19, 1925 in Viroqua, Wis. to Michael and Mae (Johnson) Allness. He was a graduate of Viroqua High School. Johnny was baptized, confirmed and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. On November 15, 1952 he married Myrna Anderson and moved to Kenosha, Wis. to haul new cars for Kenosha Auto Transport. He hauled cars nation-wide and also made deliveries on his return trips from all over the United States. Johnny loved his job so much he said it was like he was on vacation. In 1987 he retired after driving over 3 million miles over 34 years, and went to work driving dealer trades for different dealerships. Johnny did this until 2001 when he and his wife, Myrna, moved back to the family farm in Viroqua, Wis. After the move to Viroqua, Johnny joined the Vernon Memorial Hospital Fitness Center. He went every day, arriving at 5:30 a.m. and was very dedicated. In addition to his wife, Myrna, he is survived by one daughter, Judy Ann Allness of Waukegan, IL; two sisters-in-law, Karen (David) Nelson of Vashon, WA and Artice Cox of Viroqua; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Alf and his baby brother, Olaf.
