John T. Hogan, age 76 of LaFarge died Tuesday April 30, 2019. John Thomas Hogan, age 76 of LaFarge died Tuesday April 30, 2019 at the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice care. John was born in Belvidere, IL on October 11, 1942 to John and Veronica (McCarragher) Hogan. He was raised on his family farm in Arena Wisconsin with his seven siblings. He was second oldest of the family and looked up to with respect from all of his siblings. John had various jobs over the years including working on the family farm, drilling and eventually being promoted to Bridge Inspector for the State of Wisconsin. He loved telling stories of his adventures on the "snooper truck". John and Margaret "Maggie" Smith met after John had the road closed between Rockton and Ontario, making Maggie late for a funeral. Maggie had some words for him that day which she soon forgot after meeting him again in town and quickly making a connection. John was a true romantic, despite being a bachelor for so many years. He would often write love notes, poems and bring home flowers for Maggie, winning her heart even more. John and Maggie were married on New Years Day, January 1, 1987 at the United Methodist Church in LaFarge. He became an instant father and grandfather that day, a title he fulfilled in every way. With his soft-spoken manner and warm spirit he guided his girls and eventually his grandchildren in his love of family, nature and life in general. John became an accepted member of Maggies large family (of thirteen siblings) where he became "one of the guys". John and Maggie were longtime members the Hillsboro Sportsman Club. He loved turkey and deer hunting mostly on the family farm in Arena, but also with Maggies family, Melvyn, Dale, Butch, Kevin, Mike and others. He and Maggie spent countless hours at "Birch Acres" campground, throwing horseshoes, playing cards, and "talking smart". John loved to fish; always a family activity, and that love was passed onto his grandchildren. John felt it was his duty to see to it that he gave each grandchild their very first fishing pole, even to the point once by bringing the rod and reel to the hospital maternity ward. In his quiet times, John was an avid reader of current events and history. National Geographic magazines overflowed his shelves as he was always interested in the world around him. John was a proud Irishman, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. God bless our memories of John. John is survived by; his wife of 32 years Maggie, his daughters through Maggie, Kathy (Duane) Roberts, Crystal (Jim) Hanson, and her younger twin Christine (Kevin) Dean, his 10 grandchildren Heather (Brad Brokaw) Roberts, Dustin Roberts, Molly Hanson, Molli Peterson, Maggie Peterson, Jaden (Cory) Copus, Dawson Dean, Corey Camlek, Jace Dean and Aaron Camlek.
