John "Jack" W. Roberts, age 73, died at his home February 25, 2007. J ohn "Jack" W. Roberts, age 73, died at his home February 25, 2007. He was born June 6, 1933 to Harvey and Helen (Kyser) Roberts in Eyota, MN. John graduated from Kennebec High School in South Dakota. At age 18, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a PFC 1st Battalion 196th Regimental Combat Team and Korean War from 1950-1953. John married Hannah West in 1966 in Milton, WI. They had two children: Kimberly and Jeremiah. John was most known for being an avid commercial fisherman and fishing various lakes in Wisconsin. He also looked forward to his hunting trips to South Dakota. Whether he was acting as a guide to help others or was hunting with friends, he always enjoyed himself. He also enjoyed helping at local fishing tournaments. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Don) Martinson and their daughter Sierra of DeSoto; Eric, Alicia, and Kristi; his brother, James (Bonnie) Roberts of International Falls, MN; and sisters: Judy (Norman) Liffengrin of Faribault, MN; Mary (Harold) Kreager of Kennebec, SD; and Sharon Deuschle of Viroqua. He is further survived by many extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Susan and Vera, Hannah Roberts, and their son, Jeremiah. "Papa" will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in DeSoto. Pastor Libby Howe will officiate. Burial with military rites will be at the Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat. Friends may call on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in DeSoto. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
