Joyce Marie Stone

Joyce Marie Stone, age 85, of La Farge, passed away peacefully after a weekend of reminiscing with her family at home on Sunday, February 8th, 2026. She was born on April 9th, 1940, in rural La Farge to Lesley and Helen (Erickson) Melvin. Joyce was a caregiver and food was her love language. Her greatest joys in her life were caring for her husband and spending time with him; raising her children; and sharing the ultimate love for her grandchildren.

Joyce was united in marriage with her love, Hallie “Butch” Stone, on May 3, 1963, in Colorado. While Joyce and Hallie enjoyed their first few years of married life in Colorado, they later moved back to the La Farge area where they continued their story. Together they had two kids: Shawn Dee and Shane H. Joyce was so proud of both her children, and she spoiled them whenever she had the chance. When she wasn’t spending time with the children, she and Hallie spent many hours, days, and weeks traveling. Just the simplest of drives would give both of them so much joy and happiness, and it didn’t matter what they did. During their early years together, Hallie and Joyce would go on drives or trips in any vehicle they had: stock cars, motorcycles, and even semis (although most semi drives were for working). There were a few times Hallie spoiled Joyce with trips to Sturgis Rallies where they would enjoy the time together. Once they bought their new Ranger, Hallie and Joyce would go sightseeing around the area, whether it was Westby to get an ice cream cone or to Tomah to get a simple dinner.

When Joyce became a grandma, she really fit the definition to her new title and job. Her grandchildren were her everything and she had so much love for them. Joyce spoiled her grandchildren even more than her kids. Her grandchildren will truly miss her for always being there for them; no matter how far or close, she was always checking in on them to make sure they were all right.

Joyce is survived by her children, Shawn (Kevin) Janecek and Shane (Naomi) Stone; her special niece, Iva Stoleson; her bonus son, Rick Fredrickson; her grandchildren: Starr, Karen, Kristopher, Kathryn, Megan, Anthony, Kyle, Aislynn, and Sophia; several great-grandchildren; her newest joy and light, Theodore “Sterling” Stone; her sister, Diana (David) Payne; her sister-in-law, LaVonne Hisel; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

A private celebration will be held at a later date.

Memorials in Joyce’s name would be appreciated to your local humane society.
