Judy A. Olson, age 50 of Viroqua, died Saturday, January 16, 2010. J udy A. Olson, age 50 of Viroqua, died early Saturday morning, January 16, 2010 at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua after a short, courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 27, 1959 in Viroqua to Calvin and Patricia (Nerison) Anderson. She graduated from Westby High School in 1977 and from UW-L in 1981. She also earned her Masters degree from UW-L. On July 23, 1983 she was united in marriage to Al Olson at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church where she was a life member. Judy did her practice teaching at Viroqua schools and continued on in her current position as a phy ed and health teacher. Judy also coached a variety of sports and was very active in her son Boomers life and racing interests. As a teacher and a person, Judy encouraged all the kids to "Follow your dreams!" In addition to her husband, Al, she is survived by their son, Aaron "Boomer" Olson; her parents, Cal and Pat Anderson; one brother, Ricki Anderson; one sister, Karla (Gary) Newman; two nieces: Monica (Arlen) Wolfe and Melinda (Jim) McGowan; two great-nephews: Wyatt and Evan; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives on Als side of the family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Blessed be our memory of Judy Olson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Viroqua High School Gym where Judy taught for many years. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred for a scholarship to be set up in Judys name. The Vosseteig Funeral Homes of Viroqua and Westby are serving the family.
