Judy Rose Neuerburg, age 78, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026. She was born on April 26, 1947, in Carroll, Iowa, to Arthur and Evelyn (Niehaus) Schroeder.
Judy was united in marriage to John Raymond Neuerburg on May 24, 1969, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa, after their engagement on February 7 of that year. Together, they built a life rooted in family, faith, and community, sharing 56 years of marriage.
A graduate of Kuemper Catholic High School's Class of 1965, Judy valued her K-12 Catholic education and continued learning throughout her life, even taking night computer courses while working. Her career reflected her strong work ethic and adaptability, from providing in-home daycare while raising her family during John's travels with Gambles, to positions at the Buena Vista County Assessor's Office in Storm Lake, Iowa, and later at the Vernon County Courthouse in Viroqua. She dedicated 31 years to Vernon Electric in member services, where she was known for her helpful nature and friendly presence. In retirement, Judy remained active, working at H&R Block, serving as secretary for the Eagles 2707 Aerie, and most recently assisting at Vosseteig Funeral Home, where she helped set up and serve luncheons with care and compassion.
Judy had a zest for life and a wide range of interests. She was an avid golfer with two holes-in-one to her name and a wicked powerful swing, often outdriving many men. She enjoyed bowling, frequently appearing on league leaderboards, and played summer softball in her younger years, earning the nickname "Slugger Schroeder." Judy especially loved football season, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers football, often enthusiastically "coaching" from her living room, convinced her whistling and spirited calls to the television might just influence the outcome.
Her love for creativity showed in her many handmade items, including pinecone wreaths, macramé, photo albums, and ceramics. Judy took great pride in her home and yard, tending to her flowers, maintaining a beautiful lawn, and decorating seasonally, even famously bringing a Christmas tree along to Florida because, of course, we needed one there since she had five or six decorated at home.
A devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Judy served on the parish council and lived her faith through service. She was deeply involved with the Eagles 2707 Auxiliary, holding every office, including Madame President multiple times, and was especially proud of her decades of work coordinating the annual Eagles Cancer Telethon. Her dedication was recognized by being named Mrs. Eagle, with her induction into the Wisconsin Eagles Hall of Fame in 2017, and having the honor of the Auxiliary's 50th anniversary cookbook being dedicated to her. She also contributed her time to the Viroqua Country Club Board and the Vernon County Homemakers.
Judy was known affectionately as "Fancy Grandma" by her grandchildren's friends, always impeccably dressed and put together. She enjoyed getting her nails done, shopping for clothes and purses, and accessorizing with her favorite jewelry. She had a playful side as well, with a fondness for black jelly beans and her signature request to her mother for a batch of slightly burned chocolate chip cookies. She loved when the grandchildren would spend the weekend so they could water flowers, bake cookies, and spend time together.
Growing up on a farm in Arcadia, Iowa, Judy often described herself as a tomboy who loved working outdoors and "slopping the pigs." After losing her father at a young age, she developed a fiercely independent spirit, often saying, "I can do it myself." That determination stayed with her throughout her life, and those who knew her understood that if something needed to be done, Judy was the one to call.
Above all, Judy loved time with her family. She loved cooking for gatherings and holidays, always setting a beautiful table. She will be remembered for her generosity, her strength, her sense of style, and her commitment to those she loved.
Judy is survived by her husband, John; her children, Jena (Alan) Sherry, and Jason Neuerburg; and her grandchildren, Hannah, Sophie, and Griffin; her siblings, Robert (Irene) Schroeder and Marlene (Gene) Eich; John's siblings, Bob (Jolene) Neuerburg, Glenn (Mary) Neuerburg, Ron Neuerburg, Mary Jane Caraher, Darlene Willard, and Jim Neuerburg; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends including her Eagle's Auxiliary sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant sister, Noreen Schroeder; her goddaughter, Karla (Eich) Primrose; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Ann (Balukoff) Neuerburg; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and JoAnn Wright; her brothers-in-law, Bill Willard and Bill Caraher; and her sisters-in-law, Leona Neuerburg and Sherry Neuerburg.
Judy's life was a testament to hard work, resilience, and love. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she now find herself always hitting the green, forever in the fairway, and at peace, eternally on par.
