Julius D. Ellefson, age 82 of Viroqua, died Saturday, June 9, 2007 Julius D. Ellefson, age 82 of Viroqua, died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Gundersen-Lutheran in LaCrosse. He was born on November 10, 1924 to Gertrude Ellefson and attended school in Viroqua, Purdy and Westby. Julius was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on June 25, 1939 by the late Rev. Kleven. He served in WWII, Infantry Battalion, for 18 months and was united in marriage to Lucille Springer on April 16, 1947. Julius was a tobacco farmer for three years before going into dairy farming. They farmed near Westby until 1971 when they returned to tobacco farming. On September 16, 1986 they sold the farm and moved to Viroqua. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was always eager to swap stories about deer hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, Lucille, Julius is survived by a half sister, Darlene Dickman of Viroqua; half brother, Raymond Hirschfield of Readstown; a special niece, Judy Blackburn of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant half sister, Dawn; half brothers, Everett and Donald Hirschfield; his step-father, Elmer, who died on July 17, 1993; and his mother, Gertrude who died on September 17, 1995. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Viroqua Church of Christ, with Nathan Prong, Minister, officiating. Burial with military rites by Jacobson-Olson American Legion, Post 138 and Running, Johnson, Ray VFW, Post 3032 Military Honor Guard will follow in the Belgium Ridge Cemetery, rural Viroqua. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Viroqua Church of Christ. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
