June Krahn, age 103, of Gays Mills, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Soldiers Grove Health Services. June was born on March 31, 1918, the eldest of five children born to Dorris and Ferne (George) Jerrett. On April 13, 1937, she married Karl Krahn in Galena, Illinois, and for the next 74 years, she and Karl were inseparable as they watched the world go by and their family grow from their home on Main Street in Gays Mills. In the early days, she and Karl worked for the Teach family at Sunrise Orchards with June sorting apples and Karl driving truckloads of apples to destinations around the Midwest. She and Karl owned and operated the Standard Oil station for 22 years, and later June worked for Jim McDonald as a cashier at McDonald’s Grocery Store. Through the years, June’s greatest joys were her grandsons, Brady and Mark Ambrose, and later their families as well; enjoying the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who visited often. An early riser, June, or Grandma June as she was called, would be up before the sun cooking meals for Papa Krahn or the entire family. The aroma of roast beef and homemade noodles or fried chicken and mashed potatoes cooking in the kitchen would wake up those who were visiting. Leftovers were always sent home along with a $20 bill that she just happened to have in her purse and a full tank of gas. Though she was small in stature, her presence in the lives of her family will never be matched and she will forever be missed, but not forgotten. Survivors include her daughter, Karen Bolin; her grandsons, Brady (Emily) Ambrose and Mark (Deana) Ambrose; her great-grandchildren, Sophie Ambrose, Drew (Amanda) Ambrose, Marissa (Jim) Gerke, and Jerred Ambrose; and her great-great-grandchildren, Vivian, Davis, and Jameson. June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Karl Krahn; her siblings, Keenan Jerrett, Rodney Jerrett, Donna Everett, and Wayne Jerrett; and her son-in-law, Jerry Ambrose. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of the service. Burial will follow at the Gays Mills Cemetery. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
