Kari J. Nelson, 65, of Westby, WI passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, surrounded by her family.
Kari and her identical twin sister, Kala, were born on October 14, 1959, to Harold and Jacquelyn (Lawrence) Nelson.
Kari attended Westby Area High School graduating in 1977. She attended Western Wisconsin Technical College from 1977 to 1979, to study Early Childhood Development.
Kari married Robert "Bob" Nelson Jr. on July 3, 1999. They made their home in Westby, WI, where she worked various jobs until her 2nd bout of cancer caused her early retirement.
Kari’s family was the most important part of her life. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, Kaydyn Evon and Maximus Steven. Rarely did she miss a sporting event that Kaydyn and Max played in or that her son, Andrew coached. She was their number one cheerleader.
Kari is survived by her loving husband Bob of 26 years; her son, Andrew and his wife Sarah; and her two grandchildren, Kaydyn Evon and Maximus Steven Nelson. She is further survived by her mother, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Nelson; her sisters, Dawn (Michael) Skrede, DeAnne Nelson; her twin sister, Kala (Mark) Muenzenberger; her niece, Jenna (Randy) Kuderer and their daughter, Madilynn Sloan; her nephew, Matthew Skrede and his children, Zander (Jenny), Hally, and Nolan Skrede; her brothers-in-law, George Nelson and Jeff Nelson Sr.; sisters-in-law, Deb Powderly and Viola Farmer; as well as nieces and nephews on Bob’s side of the family. Kari will also be greatly missed by her very special dog, Lilly Rose.
Kari is preceded in death by her dad, Harold J. Nelson; her paternal and maternal grandparents; her in-laws, Robert Sr. and Hellen Nelson; and her sisters-in-law, Shelley Wirtz and Pam Goll.
Kari’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Vernon Memorial Hospital and Gunderson Lutheran Hospital for their compassionate care of Kari and all of her family during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. Pastor Alyssa Weaver will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Kari will be laid to rest at Coon Prairie Cemetery following the service.
