Karlyn U. Koenen

Karlyn U. Koenen, age 78, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Vernon Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 9, 1945, in Washington, IL, to John and Emma (Schmid) Ludwig. Her family moved to Viroqua when Karlyn was 3 years old and had a farm they operated. She attended Viroqua Area Schools. She married William "Bill" Koenen on April 27, 1973. She worked at NCR in Viroqua, did wallpaper and painting for various people, tended bar at the Viroqua Eagles Club where she was a charter member and past President, and for several years was a stay-at-home mom. She ended her working career at Kwik Trip. Karlyn loved gardening and flowers, putting puzzles together, and her cats.

Survivors include her sons, Craig (Susie) Koenen, Kyle (Deanna) Koenen, and Kurt Koenen; grandchildren, Alan, Matthew, Christopher, Alyssa, Hannah; her brother, Martin “Richard” (partner Jane Fossum) Ludwig; 9 nieces and

nephews; other relatives and friends.

Karlyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William “Bill” Koenen; her siblings: Ronnie (Rosie) Ludwig, Wayne “Geno” (Kay) Ludwig; nephew, Michael Ludwig; and a niece, Tena Schmidt.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Pastor Michele Engh will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Karlyn will be laid to rest at the Viroqua Cemetery. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
