Keith Tainter

April 28, 1929 — April 11, 2024

Keith Tainter, age 94, of Westby, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Creamery Creek Senior Living in Viroqua. He was born on April 28, 1929, to the late Zilmer and Mabel (Glass) Tainter. After graduating from Kickapoo High School, Keith worked for Tri-State Breeders until being drafted into the United States Army where he served for two years. Keith returned to work at Tri-State Breeders, where he worked for over 30 years. He married Marian Slette on June 27, 1953. Keith served as a board member for the Westby Co-op Credit Union for over 30 years, being involved with the creation of the Mobile Bank. He was also a member of the Westby American Legion Post #155.

Farming was such a passion of Keith’s that he was still helping on the farm at the age of 83. Keith really enjoyed having his grandsons work on the farm in the summer during the day and taking them fishing at night. He was always making sure he taught the grandsons some of life’s lessons. The “Gray Fox”, a name he was called often, really had a passion for hunting the red fox.

Keith is survived by his children: Jeff, Mark (Kim), Julie Johnson, and Mary Holte (Chris Treleven); grandchildren: Anne Haugen, Krista Joyce (Bill Waite), Kyle (Ashley) Tainter, Karlee (Jack) McKinney, Matthew (Christy) Tainter, Craig (Lauren) Tainter, Curt (Suzi) Stakston, Destinie Brown, Jay (Christin) Johnson, Andy (Whitney) Johnson, Abby (Jimmy) Beck, Leah (Patrick) Fanella, and Kylee (Aaron) Kasar; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Debbie); sisters-in-law, Darlene Tainter and Annette Melby; brother-in-law, Fritz Engh; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; his parents; Marian’s parents, Julius and Alvia Slette; daughters, Terrie (Arne) Haugen and Lorie Brown; grandsons, Erik Haugen and Brett Holte; granddaughter, Alycia Brown; his siblings: Betty (Kenneth) Larson, Bonney (Donald) Deckert, and Ken Tainter; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Eldoris (Ralph) Melby, Addy Nelson (Ted Dreves), and LouAnn Engh.

Keith’s family would like to thank Creamery Creek Senior Living and St. Croix Hospice for their exceptional care.
