Keith Trapper Vance

March 19, 1952 — February 10, 2018

Keith "Trapper" Vance, 65, of Viroqua, died Saturday, February 10, 2018. Keith L. Vance, known by many as "Trapper", passed away on February 10, 2018 at the age of 65 years, of pancreatic cancer. Keith was born in Viroqua on March 19, 1952 to William and Freda (Fredrickson) Vance. He began dating his wife, Kay, at the age of 18, and married her July 25, 1981. In 1989, they were blessed with the birth of their son Max, who was their pride and joy. As Keith would often say, he was a jack of all trades, and Master of none. Although, technically speaking, he was a Master Electrician. Over the years, Keith held many occupations. At age 14, he started running projectors, and later took ownership of the Viroqua Theater. He was a Special Conservation Warden (1980-2003), a Hunters Safety Instructor (20 + years), a Volunteer Firefighter for the City of Viroqua (14 years), and worked in Law Enforcement as an officer, dispatcher, and K9 handler and trainer. He also wore many other hats, such as Farmer, Bee Keeper, Trapper, "Professional" Rendezvous Re-enactor, and often described himself as a Well Groomed Mountain Man (which he defined as "no burdocks"). He would like everyone to know he was a merit award winner for his beef jerky at the Vernon County Fair, knew how to make a mean batch of lefse, and always had time to tell a storyor two. While proud of his many accomplishments, the roles he valued the most were husband, father, grandfather (Bumpa), uncle, and friend. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 48 years, Kay Vance, his son Max (Kelsey) Vance, granddaughter Madelynn Vance, and was excited for the arrival of his second grandchild in July. A memorial service will be held February 15, at 1:00pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua, with a visitation starting at 12:00pm. There will be a meal following the service where the family encourages friends and family to stay and share their greatest memories of Trapper. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in memory of Keith may be made to the Viroqua Fire Department, or the wildlife/land conservation organization of your choice. Online Condolences may be offered at www.VossFH.com. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
