After a long, wonderful life, Kenneth J. Hatfield, aka Lightning, aged 91, passed away on July 30, 2024, in La Farge, WI. Born on February 21, 1933, in the Town of Stark, La Farge, WI, Kenneth led a fulfilling life marked by his dedication to his family and his passion for music.
Kenneth's career spanned several decades and various roles. He worked as a farmer and mechanic; spending time manufacturing Estwing hammers in Rockford, IL and dedicated 32 years as a mechanic at the Coop in La Farge, WI. His work ethic and skills were highly respected in the community.
From the tender age of seven, Kenneth was deeply involved in music. His love for playing instruments only grew with time, and he continued to play music up until the evening before his passing, sharing his talent and passion with all those around him.
Kenneth was a beloved figure in his family and community. He is survived by his children: Martin Hatfield, Geneva (Harold) Gillett, Kenneth D. (Denise) Hatfield, Barbara (Stuart) Young, Arnold (Angela) Hatfield, Jeanne Hatfield (Steve Hendrickson), Johnathon (Bonnie) Hatfield, and Joann Ronnfeldt; 28 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings: Gary (Sally) Hatfield, Mike (Marylyn) Hatfield, Jerry (Ellen Kay) Hatfield, and Verta (James) Revels. Kenneth was a stepfather to Douglas (Dawn) Duncan, Gregory (Shawn) Duncan, and Jason (Samantha) Duncan, and had many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. His life was enriched by his dear friend, Kenny Kelbel and family friend, Bonita Dorschied.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Lillian (Copus) Hatfield; his first wife, Cora June (Markin) Hatfield, who was the love of his life and mother of his children; his second wife, Linette (Duncan) Hatfield; sisters, Verna Winger and Phyllis Kelbel; brother, Orval Hatfield; daughter-in-law, Billie Hatfield; son-in-law, Joesph Ronnfeldt; stepson, Randal Duncan; and grandchildren, KC Hatfield and Joesph Ronnfeldt. Kenneth was further preceded in death by his brothers-in-law: Raymond Markin, Arnold Markin, Delos Markin, Rosco Markin, Clarence Kelbel, and Benjamin Winger and sisters-in-law, Lela Hatcher and Evelyn Anderson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. An additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Kenneth will be laid to rest at the Bear Creek Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church.
Kenneth's life was a testament to the joy and love he brought to his family and all who knew him. His legacy will live on through his music and the memories cherished by his loved ones.
