Kenneth M. Evenstad

Kenneth Evenstad, age 89 of Westby died Friday, August 31, 2007 Kenneth M. Evenstad, age 89 of Westby, died Friday, August 31, 2007 at the Norseland Nursing Home in Westby where he had been a resident for nearly nine years. He was born on March 26, 1918 in Bloomingdale, WI to John and Ida (Melby) Evenstad. He served in the Army during WWII where he was stationed in England and saw action in Italy and Africa. On November 22, 1948 he was united in marriage to Helen Holte and together they farmed the Holte home farm. In addition to farming, he also did carpentry work in the Westby area, and when Webster Lumber opened near Westby, he was one of the first employees, retiring from Websters in 1982 and from farming in 1992. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially trout fishing and his carpentry skills led to his love of woodworking. Kenneth was a member of Syverson-Funk American Legion and the Westby V.F.W. He is survived by one son, Michael (Connie) Evenstad of Coon Valley; one daughter, Martha (Lenny) Lakatos of Westby; four grandchildren: Dustin Evenstad of Coon Valley, Jamey (Amy) Evenstad of Coon Valley, Tom Lakatos of Okinawa, Japan, and Jeanette Lakatos of Milwaukee; one great-granddaughter, Lydia Evenstad; and one step-great grandson, Darwin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife on January 21, 1998; one son who died in infancy; three brothers: Chester, George, and Leslie; one half brother, Oscar Bagstad; two sisters: Edna Betts and Lillian Evenstad; and one sibling in infancy. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff at Norseland Nursing Home for the excellent care our dad received. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby with Pastor Gary Daines officiating. Burial with military rites by Syverson Funk American Legion Post #155 and the Westby V.F.W. will follow in the Our Saviors Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby.
