It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kirby Lane Hamilton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the Viola community, who departed this life on May 22, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on November 24, 1940, in Viola, to Carl and Lulu (Risen) Hamilton, Kirby lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, and deep-rooted relationships in the town he cherished.
Kirby shared many happy years with his devoted wife, Verla (Alderman) Hamilton. The couple wed on March 16, 1961, at the courthouse in Kenosha after Verla proposed. Their partnership was built on love, shared values, and an enduring bond that inspired those around them. Kirby will be remembered as a loving husband who cherished every moment with Verla, bringing warmth and joy into their home and inspiring their family. Theirs was truly a love story!
For many years, Kirby served as the Utilities Manager for the Village of Viola, where he was known not only for his professionalism but also for his commitment to the community he called home. His work ethic and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and neighbors, making him a treasured asset to the community. Viola honored Kirby with a street named after him, “Kirby Lane.”
His enthusiasm for the outdoors, especially hunting with his sons, grandsons, and buddies, love of country music, taste for morel mushrooms, and the simple pleasures of life left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to share in his experiences.
He is survived by his loving wife, Verla, and his sons, Mark (Jill), Bruce (Barb), and Dennis Hamilton, who will carry forward his legacy of hard work, kindness, and community spirit. He is further survived and blessed by his grandchildren, Nathan (Amber), Megan (Marcus), Travis (Dayna), Katlynn (Mitchell), Brianna (Terrence), Bianca (Josh), Barak (Lindsey), Zachary (Cody), and Cole (Morgan); great-grandchildren, Jonas, Kennedy, Addison, Raelynn, Easton, Hadley, Lane, Treyce, Zoey, Kyren, Jaxon, Ryder, Benson, Ryan, Parker, and Josephine; his sisters, Lois (David) Germain, and Connie Willis; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including his foster son, Jim Gundlach; special nephew Bob (Jean) Hamilton; and daughter-in-law, Gail Hamilton.
Kirby was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lula; siblings Cecil, Donald, Bill, Judy Clason, Jim, Wayne, and Joyce Dosch.
A private family graveside service to honor Kirby’s remarkable life will be held. On Saturday, June 7, 2025, family and friends will gather at 2:00 PM at the Rockton Bar for a Celebration of Life. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all.
The family asks that memorials be given in Kirby’s memory to the Kickapoo Valley Rescue Squad. Online condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
