La Mont "Monte" V. Eide, 58, of Viroqua, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012. LaMont "Monte" V. Eide, 57, of Viroqua, passed away unexpectedly while undergoing surgery at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 10, 2012.Monte was born to Lawrence and Darlene (Ellefson) Eide on May 27, 1953 in Viroqua, WI. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1972 then enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Juliette and served overseas from 1972 1975.After his service, he worked for the Madison DNRs maintenance department for a short period of time. Monte then went in to working for the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, where he worked in the heating plant. He then transferred to maintenance where he worked for over 30 years retiring in 2009. Friends and family knew Montes door was always open. He enjoyed many things; mechanics, helping where he could, and someone to share a good laugh with. He spent a lot of time with his best friend and brother Jim.He is survived by two brothers: Larry of La Crosse, and Jim of Viroqua; two sisters: Linda (David) Herried of Viroqua and Jean (Bruce) Anderson of Viroqua. Nieces: Angie, Beth, Kim, Trudy and Michelle; and nephews: Corey and Jason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Darlene Eide; nephew, Thomas Anderson, in infancy; and sister-in-law, Patricia Eide. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Kathryn Ingbritsen will officiate with burial in Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Main, in Westby. Friends may also call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11.
