Larry Leroy Hooker

July 9, 1955 — May 20, 2020

Larry L. Hooker, 64, of Viola, WI, died unexpectedly while working in Jackson, Michigan, on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. He was born on July 9, 1955, in Richland County, Wisconsin, to Harley and Evelyn (Pellett) Hooker. Larry was a graduate of Kickapoo High School, Class of 1973. Larry graduated from a two-year program in Waste Treatment Management from Southwest Technical College in Fenimore, WI, in 1975. Larry married Linda (Johnson) on April 10, 1982. Larry was a man of many talents and held as many jobs. He worked early on at the Viola Creamery, followed by H&H Implement, Gateway Distribution, Schneider National, Wal-Mart, Hall Farms, QLF, and finally Sherwin-Williams. Larry enjoyed his work and made many great friends along the way. We, Larry’s family, have heard a great deal about his close friends Brian and Ron, and we have come to learn that they have heard our names too. This exemplifies two things Larry cared about very much: his family and friends. He was known for and loved to have long conversations with the people he cared about. He was always willing to lend a helping hand for family, friends, and neighbors. Larry has been called a “walking-talking roadmap” and he was very willing to give his best route advice to anyone about to travel and to those who were stranded at a “Larry-approved” wayside unsure of which direction to go. Larry was a man full of valuable information to share and always had a smile to give to those around him. He will be very missed by his friends, family, and community. Larry is survived by his wife Linda; stepchildren Kimberly (Barry) Peterson, Steven Baker, and Tanya (Benjamin) Culver; grandchildren Sarita (Dan Johnson) Peterson, Shelbi (Kyle) Poeppel, Sawyer Peterson, Samuel Peterson, Preston Baker, Sylvia Peterson, Alayna Culver, Allison Culver, Benny Culver, Breylyn Culver, and Rhonan Culver; great grandchildren Ayden Johnson, McKenzie Poeppel, Jackson Poeppel, Ahnalise Peterson, AzMae Peterson, and Amara Poeppel; brothers Roger (Becky) Hooker of La Farge, David (Diane) Hooker of Trempealeau, Gaylord Hooker of Boaz, and Keven (Becky) Hooker of Viola; and sisters Pauline Boggs of Green Bay, Ellen (Jerry) Hatfield of Dixon, Missouri, and Nancy Schmitt of Orfordville; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Evelyn (Pellett) and Harley Hooker, brother Darvin Hooker, sister-in-law Linda (Parker) Hooker, brothers-in-law Dick Boggs and Gerald Schmitt, nephews Harley, Royce, Brian, and Joseph Hooker, and nieces Christina Hooker and Judie Hatfield. A private family gathering for immediate family members will be held at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. A public graveside service will take place Thursday, May 28, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the Viola Cemetery in Viola. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Larry’s employer, Sherwin-Williams for all of their extraordinary support and the comfort they have given during the tough times. We appreciate you very much. Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua is serving Larry's family. 123 W. Decker Street Viroqua, WI 54665 608-637-2100
