Larry Olson

Larry Olson, of Caledonia, MN, died Thursday, May 7, 2015. Larry J. Olson, age 67 of Caledonia, MN, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 7, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born on March 18, 1948 in Viroqua to Hjalmer and Marian (Onshus) Olson. He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Guam LPH9 from March 23, 1968 to December 1, 1969. On December 9, 1978 he married Connie Schuttemeier of Spring Grove, MN and they later divorced. They were blessed with three daughters: Leah (Adam) Peterson, Heidi (Aaron) Grams and Brittany (Dusty) Miller. Larrys career involved working for Northern Engraving, helping local farmers with fieldwork and chores. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, camping, long "putt-putt" rides on his John Deere A or long drives through the countryside. He also liked garage sales, auctions, and looking for treasures. Larry is further survived by Kristopher (Michelle) Kolbo and Amanda Kolbo; three sisters: Iris (Dean) Torgerson, Ellen (Roland) Hanson and Julie Reed; special friend, Bob; his half-brother, Merton (Marilyn) Onshus; grandchildren: Kaden, Blake, Sophia, Jacob, Madison, Rachael, Zachary, Conner, Violet and Nicholas; very (extra) special nephew and hunting and fishing buddy, Heath Hanson; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Virgil. Blessed be our memory of Larry J. Olson A celebration of life will be on Sunday, May 10, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. at Shellhorn in Brownsville, MN. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby. Burial with military rites will be in the Our Saviors Cemetery.
