Viroqua - Larry Ray Mosher was born on June 27, 1929, to Gifford Ray Mosher and Jessie (Smith) Mosher in Richland Center, WI. He passed away on July 29, 2024, at Creamery Creek in Viroqua. He attended Viroqua Schools and graduated in 1947. He went to Stout for four years and became an industrial arts teacher. He taught for one year in Harmony, MN, and then eight years in Onalaska. Larry met his wife, Jane, in Onalaska. They were married on July 7, 1956. They moved to Viroqua in 1962. He went back to school and became a guidance counselor in the middle school. Larry retired from teaching in 1990 and was later inducted into the Viroqua Area Schools’ “Excellence in Education” Wall of Recognition on May 3, 2008. They had four daughters, Greta, Nancy, Lisa, and Carla. He joined the National Guard in 1948 and retired a major in 1972.
Larry was also a big part of VARC being built in Viroqua for special needs adults after 21. His daughter, Nancy, was special needs and was the reason he wanted somewhere for them to go work. He was on the board from 1975 to 2022.
Survivors include his daughters, Greta (Monte) Nestingen, Lisa (Bob) Schaitel, and Carla (John) Laffey; grandchildren, Monica (Dan Herlitzke) Haney, Nicole (Ben) Gald, Tabitha (Craig) Williams, Tyler (Savannah) Sherry and Avery Laffey; great-grandchildren, Devyn, Jayda, and Daylin Haney, Sytara and Hunter Gald, Dominic Janzen, Kindale Williams, Gunnar Williams, and Ashtin Sherry; a sister, Joretta Herbst, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; his wife, Jane, in January 2021; and his daughter, Nancy, in August 2016.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Viroqua Church of Christ. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 7, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Viroqua Church of Christ. Additional visitation will be held Thursday from Noon until the time of the service. Larry will be laid to rest at the Viroqua Cemetery with full military honors. A luncheon will follow at the church. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
