Soldiers Grove, WI LaVerne Winston Sherry, 89, passed away on Friday October 14, 2016 at 11:00 P.M. at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. LaVerne was born March 9, 1927 at home, to Sidney and Ella (Wee) Sherry. He attended Star Valley Grade School and graduated from Soldiers Grove High School. On October 19, 1952 LaVerne married Aleda Nelson at the North Kickapoo Lutheran Church. They continued farming on the home farm where he was born. He always enjoyed farming, milking cows and raising crops. He also enjoyed sports especially the Packers and the Badgers. He very much appreciated all the good neighbors he had throughout the years. In his younger days he liked to go deer hunting and snowmobiling. Later came the trips to Branson, MO to the Country Western Music Shows. LaVerne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Aleda, 1 daughter Debra Rasmussen of Madison, 2 sons Randy (Linda) Sherry of Readstown and Lee (Carrie) Sherry of Viroqua. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; Teresa (Charles) Dalton of Huxley, IA, April Sherry of LaCrosse, Matthew Sherry of Soldiers Grove and Hallie and Isabella Sherry both of Viroqua, and 2 great-grandchildren Abigail and Elliot Dalton as well as 1 brother, Philip (Charlotte) Sherry, 2 sister-in-laws Bonnie and Joanne Sherry all of Viroqua, 1 brother-in-law and sister-in-law Marvin and Jean Nelson both of LaCrosse and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers Gordon (wife Eunice), Carlyle and Elling Sherry and 1 nephew, Arthur Sherry. The family would like to extend their deepest "thank yous" to the wonderful staff at Vernon Manor in Viroqua for their excellent care and compassionate considerations during LaVernes stay there. Funeral Services for LaVerne will be Thursday October 20, 2016 at Kickapoo United Lutheran Church at 1:00 PM. Pastor Chuck Miller will officiate with burial immediately after the service. Friends may call on the family during a visitation on Thursday prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. In Lieu of Flowers or Plants, Memorials May be directed to the Kickapoo United Lutheran Church or the Cemetery Fund.
