Lavon Sonny Haugrud

LaVon "Sonny" Haugrud, age 77 of Viroqua, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 LaVon 'Sonny' Verdell Haugrud, age 77, was born March 29, 1934 to Thorlief and Laura (Wood) Haugrud. Sonny served in the Army in Germany from 1955-1958. Sonny worked as a mechanic for the City of Viroqua and Vernon County, and was the owner of Sonny's Standard Station in Viroqua. He also worked independently as a tractor mechanic before retirement. Sonny enjoyed going to auctions, Nascar racing, antiques - especially spending the days at the Vernon County Fair in the antique building, truck and tractor pulls, and the many events his sons were involved in including truck pulling, mud bogs, car racing, and hill climbing. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, family members, and many friends. Sonny will always be remembered for the many jokes he shared with anyone and everyone he had a chance to visit with. Survivors include his children, Don (Brenda) Haugrud of Viroqua, and Denis (Lisa) Haugrud of Cashton. His grandchildren, Jason Haugrud of Cashton, Amanda Haugrud of Viroqua, and Amy Haugrud of Viroqua. His brother, Dale (Elaine) Haugrud of Viroqua, and his nephew, Dan Haugrud of Viroqua, as well as many aunts, cousins, and friends. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Leonard Haugrud. Funeral services will be held on Friday July 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Pastor George Shick will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. The Vosseteig Funeral Homes of Viroqua and Westby are serving the family.
