Leif Harpestad

Leif Harpestad, age 90 of Viroqua and formerly of Westby, died Friday November 21, 2008. Leif O. Harpestad, age 90 of Vernon Manor, Viroqua and formerly of Westby passed away Friday, November 21, 2008. He was born September 26, 1918 to Andrew and Anna (Olson) Harpestad. Leif was a life long member of the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and a founding member of the Country Coon Prairie Preservation Committee. He was married on February 10, 1954 to Eunice Rudrud. They farmed together on Leif's family farm, rural Westby until September 1990. Leif took pride in working hard on the farm and being an outstanding tobacco grower. In past years Leif was a large supporter of the community, being actively involved in the Westby Lion's Club and the Westby Syttende Mai Celebration. Leif was the top raffle ticket salesperson for several years. Leif would never turn down a plate of Lutefisk, a Norweigan pastry, or a cup of coffee. Leif is survived by his daughter, Judy Wubbenhorst of Westby; grandchildren: Gail (Robert) Klinkner, Viroqua, Grady and Gregg Wubbenhorst of Westby; great-grandchildren: Reagan and Garrison Klinkner of Viroqua; sister-in-law, Ona Harpestad. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eunice; special friend, Juanita Fisher; granddaughter, Genna Lynn Wubbenhorst; son-in-law, Gary Wubbenhorst; sister, Elenore Buros; brothers, Gerhard and Arvid. If it were summer, Leif's funeral would be held at Country Coon Prairie. His funeral will be held on Tuesday November 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Julie Wollman and Pastor Gary Daines will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Main Street, Hwy. 14 S. in Westby.
