Leona E. Slagle

Leona Elizabeth Slagle, age 86, of La Farge, died Thursday, June 6, 2019. Leona Elizabeth Slagle, 86, of La Farge, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Vernon Memorial Hospital. She was born in Vernon County on July 15, 1932 to the late Howard E. Wood and Bertha E. (Campbell) Wood. Her early years were spent helping her family farm throughout Vernon County. Following high school, she married Darrel Slagle on March 20, 1954. She was a homemaker, caring for her daughter Debra who was born March 31, 1955. Darrel passed away at an early age in 1970. Following his death, Leona worked various jobs in the area to include the La Farge Cheese Factory, some babysitting and housecleaning and most recently the ZZip Stop. Leona collected baskets, thimbles and dolls. She married Clyde Lawrence on June 14, 2005. Unfortunately, Clyde died 10 months after their marriage. She was known for her stubbornness and feistiness. Leona is survived by her daughter, Debra Quaglia of La Farge; three grandsons: Ryan Lee of La Farge, Bret (Theresa) Lee of Madison, Kevin Lee of Sedalia, Missouri; three great-grandchildren: Alex, Serenity, and Raylynn; other relatives and friends. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; her siblings: Hazel Robinson and Donald Wood; special friend Marvin Jensen. Funeral services for Leona will be held Monday, June 10, 2019 at 11a.m. at the La Farge Free Methodist Church, 214 S. Cherry St in La Farge. Visitation will be from 9-11am at the church. Leona will be laid to rest at Bear Creek Cemetery. Donations in Leonas name may be made to the La Farge Free Methodist Church for remodeling. Leonas family would like to thank the caring staff at La Farge Medical Clinic, Vernon Manor, Bethel Parkside, the La Farge Ambulance Service and Vernon Memorial Hospital for all the care they provided.
