Leona Rundhaugen

December 21, 1934 — March 30, 2015

Leona M. Rundhaugen, 80, of Cashton, died on Monday, March 30, 2015 Leona Mae Rundhaugen (nee Tyvand), 80, of Cashton, WI passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Norseland Nursing Home. Leona was born on December 21, 1934 to Loyd and Mandy (Bjornstad) Tyvand. She was baptized and confirmed at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, attended the one-room Homstad School and was a member of the Westby High School Class of 1952. Following graduation, Leona worked as a punch card operator at Tri-State Breeders. She was united in marriage to Myron Rundhaugen on March 16, 1968 and began farming with him on Rongstad Ridge. In 1979 they moved from Rongstad Ridge to Leonas home farm and retired from milking cows in 1993. Leona preferred to stay close to home, but did some traveling in her lifetime, including a train trip to a Luther League convention in Seattle in her youth, two family trips to Norway, and trips with her daughter to the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game in Pasadena on New Years Day 1996 and to Hawaii in 1999. She served as the treasurer for North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church for sixteen years, as well as treasurer and financial secretary of the Cashton Four-Point Lutheran Parish. She was an active member of North Coon Prairie Ladies Aid and WELCA. She could often be found in the kitchen making coffee for various church functions, even though she did not drink coffee herself. Leona was widely known for her skill in making rosettes. Orders would come in by the multiple dozens at Christmastime, and she spent many hours standing over her kettle, quietly fulfilling the orders, one rosette at a time. Leona was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Gordon. She is survived by her husband, Myron, daughter, Lynn, and son-in-law, Erik Larson.
