LeRoy "Bud" Nemec, age 75 of LaFarge, died early Wednesday morning, February 15, 2012 at his home. LeRoy "Bud" Nemec, age 75 of LaFarge, died early Wednesday morning, February 15, 2012 at his home. He was born on April 26, 1936 to Edward "Happy" and Nellie B. (Erickson) Nemec. He graduated from Westby High School and on March 17, 1954 was united in marriage to Marjorie E. (Appleman). Bud served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1961and was on the USS Stoddard DD566 in the Pacific Ocean. Bud farmed all his life including his own home farm and the farm his boys now operate. He did custom work for area farmers and was active in the community having served as president of many organizations including the Vernon Electric Coop, LaFarge School Board, LaFarge Coop Board, Salem Ridge Cemetery Board, Webster Town Board and had been a school bus driver for LaFarge. Following his retirement from active farming, Bud was a driver for area Amish for 19 years. During that time he logged a million miles and hauled 1000 mini barns. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, rural LaFarge and the Jacobson-Olson American Legion Post 138, Viroqua. In addition to his wife, Marge, Bud is survived by his children: Carla (Glen "Skip") Oliphant, Eugene "Tom" (Dawn), Jeff (Mary), Gordon (Denise), and Kevin "Tuna" (Cherie); 18 grandchildren: Stacey, Nikki, Aaron, Craig, Michelle, Alisha, Dustin, Lindsay, Haley, Alan, Stephanie, Bryant, Tori, Taunee, Taryn, Gavin, Tristen, and Jazelynn; 19 great-grandchildren; four siblings: Dorothy (Art) Gronning, Eric (Eileen) Nemec, Karel (Bob) Oliphant and Sherri (Ole) Yttri; special "adopted daughter", Ann Smolen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren: Juddson Tom Nemec and Brennon "Little Bud" Nemec. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church on Salem Ridge, rural LaFarge. Pastors George Shick and Mark Phillips will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Salem Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
