Lilah Swiggum

Lilah Swiggum, age 87 of Westby, died on Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. She was born March 7, 1919 in Viroqua Township to Alfred and Selma (Rude) Lunde. She was baptized and confirmed at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. She graduated from Westby High School in 1937 and was united in marriage to Leif Swiggum at the Little Brown Church in Waukon, IA on June 25, 1938. The couple farmed in the Westby area and Lilah worked at Borgens Caf after retiring from farming. Lilah was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Rebecca Circle. Lilah is survived by her children: A. Leonard Swiggum of Wyodena; Shirley Aarness of Westby; Rebecca (Larry) Langrehr of Bangor; LuEtta (Monte) Nelson of Coon Valley; Barbara (Ray) Heldt of Janesville; Lois (Gary) Stueland of Viroqua; Bonnie (Harry) Dempsey of Delavan; Donald Swiggum of Westby; and Joyce Haakenson of Westby. She is further survived by two brothers: Manley Lunde of Viroqua and Harry (Sue) Lunde of Glendale, AZ; 31 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia; a daughter-in-law, Winnie Swiggum; 4 sons-in-law: Ronald Stearns, Everett Eitland, Leon Aarness, and Richard Haakenson; one granddaughter, Stephanie Haakenson; one great-grandson, Corey Aarness; one sister, Alida Hanson, and one sister-in-law, Gladys Lunde. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor Gary Daines will officiate with burial in Our Saviors Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 11 from 6 8 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 South Hwy 14, Westby and on Wednesday from 10 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers the family requests memorials. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
