Lillian Alverda Stigen

WESTBY Lillian A Stigen, age 99, of Westby died Saturday April 15, 2017 at Norseland Nursing Home. Lillian was born on August 21, 1917, in La Crosse, WI to Martin and Mabel (Swenson) Schye. She was baptized and confirmed in Coon Prairie Church. She graduated from Westby High School, the class of 1935. Lillian married LeRoy Stigen on June 21, 1941 and lived in Clark Co. for two years before returning to Westby at the beginning of WWII to start their family. In 1943 they had their only child a son, Merritt L. Stigen. In 1956 Lillian joined the American Legion Auxiliary and for 61 years becoming a proud member always ready to serve. Her membership card number was #155. Lillian is survived today by: her son, Merritt (Mary Ellen) Stigen of Hudson, WI; two grandchildren, Lisa (Gregory) Dornfeld of Hudson, WI and Charles (Kara) Stigen of Brooklyn Park, MN; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Kayla Dornfeld of Winona, MN. Also surviving are several sisters-in-law, Evelyn (d.Helmer) Schye, Rosalee (d.Ivan) Schye and Lois (d.Martin) Schye; as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding Lillian in death are her parents; her husband, LeRoy; and all of her siblings; Dagny (James) Peterson, Helen (Morris) Kilen, a brother in infancy and her other five brothers, Helmer, Otto, Ivan, Raymond and Martin Schye. Funeral Services for Lillian will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. Pastor Julie Wollman of the Westby Coon Prairie Church will officiate, with burial at the Coon Prairie Cemetery following. Friends may call during a visitation from 12:00 noon until 1:00 before the service. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials may be directed to Norseland Nursing Home, 323 Black River Rd., Westby WI 54667.
