Lois Jean Mickelson, age 93, of Gays Mills, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Soldiers Grove Health Services. She was born on November 24, 1932, in Viroqua to Selbert and Sarah “Olive” (Sheffield) Aspenson. Lois grew up on her family farm near Mt. Sterling. She married Sherman Mickelson on February 5, 1955. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Gays Mills and raised a family. Lois worked at the Red Apple Inn, was a co-owner of the Westby Locker Plant for almost 20 years and went into business with her son and daughter-in-law at Mickelson Market. She was a longtime member of Luther Memorial Church in Gays Mills. She enjoyed quilting, making lefse, and helping serve funeral meals at the church. She loved her family.

Survivors include her children, Debra Mickelson, Kristie (Mark) Brownie, Steve (Dori) Mickelson, and Scott Mickelson; her grandchildren, Hillary, Eric, Rachel, Megan, Kyle, Tyler, Cody, Melinda, and Taylor; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; sisters-in-law, Ingeborg Larson, Rebecca Grangaard, Roseanne Aspenson, and Rae Dawn Aspenson; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sherman Mickelson; and her siblings, Orland (Rosemary) Aspenson, Ronald Aspenson; Joyce (Art) Helgerson, and Eldon Aspenson; her granddaughter, Amber Kay Mickelson; and her great-granddaughter, Frances “Frankie” June Allen.

A Funeral Service for Lois will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills. Pastor Carrie Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at the Gays Mills Cemetery. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the caregivers at St. Croix Hospice and Soldiers Grove Health Services for the compassionate care they provided. Also, a thank you to her special friend, Mary Greene for her thoughtfulness.
