VIROQUA Lola Jean (Haffa) West, age 94, died Friday March 31, 2017 at Bethel Home in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Jean was born in Soldiers Grove WI, on September 24, 1922 to Frederick and Bernice (Alexander) Haffa. After her father died at the age of 26, Jean, her sister Ginger and their mother made their home with Grandma Erie Alexander. This kind, loving woman gave her wonderful memories and lessons that stayed with her throughout life. Jean was a graduate of Soldiers Grove High School Class of 1940. She married Ellis West on June 14, 1941 at the Christ Episcopal Church in LaCrosse. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1991. During her 75 years in Viroqua, she was active in many activities and organizations. She was past president of the United Methodist Women and held many offices in the Church. She loved especially to sing in the Choir. Her love of flowers was evident in the flower garden she kept, and many social functions and friends were recipients of her floral arrangements through the years. She was a volunteer at the Vernon Memorial gift shop. She was employed at Hansons shoe store for 18 years. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband Ellis. She is survived by: two sons, Robert Bob (& Karen) West and David (& Yupin) West; five grandchildren--Erik and Samantha; Marcus, Merit and Serena--and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Thoftne, of Soldiers Grove, and many nieces and nephews. Her life was enriched by the love and support of dear friends Nancy & Blaine Welch, Kay & Ken Deaver, Pat & Don Reinert, Marla Peterson; her 'Kitchen Angel,' Julie Welch; and great neighbors, Bob and Ellie Hill. Funeral Services for Jean will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 1:30 PM at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker in Viroqua. Pastor Jean Waldron of the Viroqua United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow the service at the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on the family during a visitation on Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 prior to the service. A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials should be directed to the Viroqua Public Library.
