Loren R. Mellem, 60, of Viroqua died on Thursday, August 6, 2009 Loren R. Mellem, age 60, of Viroqua, died on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. He was born in Viroqua, WI. on October 18, 1948 to Norman and Julietta (West) Mellem. In 1966 he enlisted in the Air Force and served his country until 1970. On June 2, 1973, he was united in marriage to Phyllis McClurg. Loren was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and the Eagles. He worked in the dairy industry for over 33 years. He was very dedicated to his work and family and loved children, with whom he enjoyed good natured teasing. His interests included model trains, airplanes and the Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Viroqua; one son, Chad Mellem (Heather Johnson) of La Crosse; one grandson, Jake of La Crosse; Heathers daughter, Miranda; his mother, Julietta of Ettrick, WI; sister, Judy (Dennis) Parsons of Arizona; brother-in-law Conrad (Ruth) McClurg of Bangor; sisterin-law, Joyce (Kurt) Hauge of Viroqua; and many niece, nephews, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Norman 'Pete' Mellem. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Linsay Paul Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in the Viroqua Cemetery with military rites. Friends may call at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) Viroqua on Sunday, August 9, from 4-6 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
