Lorraine Dregne

October 29, 1924 — February 11, 2010

Lorraine Dregne, age 85 of Viroqua, died Thursday, February 11, 2010. Lorraine Esther Dregne, age 85, of Viroqua died on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse. Lorraine was born October 29th, 1924 to Ernest and Edna Zitzner in rural Viroqua. She became the wife of Raymond Palmer Dregne and mother of two sons on November 2nd, 1944. Five more children were born into the family. Raymond and Lorraine raised their family on a beautiful small dairy farm surrounded by hills and a creek near Star Valley, rural Soldiers Grove, Wis., raising tobacco, corn and kids! They moved to Viroqua in 1971, after Raymond suffered a stroke. She began working at the Bethel Home in Dietary, while continuing to make her home and family her priority. She continued her work at the Bethel home, where she had countless friends, for the next 25 years, retiring in 1997. Lorraine took great pride in all of her family and dearly loved each and every one of them. She had a special love for children and was busy creating memories and making everyone feel special. She loved her Bible, her kitchen, her cookbooks and her life, welcoming everyone into her home and to her table. Her house became the "hub" for so many. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed working outside and was known for her "green thumb," with beautiful plants and flowers inside and out. She had a way of making anything and everyone grow and had a unique sense of humor. Lorraine was devoted member of her country church, Franklin Lutheran and was known by her friends there for her serving and giving spirit, her humble and compassionate heart, her listening ears and her potato salad! She gave each of us our faith. Lorraine died unexpectedly, but peacefully surrounded by her family at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff in the clinic and hospital that cared for her in such an expert yet personal way. A special thanks for the ICU staff that treated her so tenderly and helped us during this difficult time. Lorraine is survived by her children, Roderick (Sandra) Dregne of Janesville, WI, Jerry (Joyce) Dregne of Pardeeville, WI, Nancy (Jim) Sheridan of Middleton, WI, Cynthia (Dennis) Johnson of Hendersonville, TN, Teresa (Kurt) Abrahamson of La Crescent, MN, Donald (Linda) Dregne of Viroqua, WI, and Angela Hornby of Viroqua, WI; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Peyer; brother, Norman (Janice) Zitzner; sister, Dorothy Munson; sister, Avis Starkey; sister-in-law and friend, Fae Zitzner; brother-in-law, Irvin Dregne; her good friends, Lorraine Schroeder and John Hornby; her special friend and hair dresser, Nellie Braaten; and countless friends. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; brother, Lloyd (Bub) Zitzner; brother, Donald Zitzner; sister, Fern Jefferies; and sister, Phyllis Dustin; son-in-law, Jan (Nancy) Olson; and her special granddaughter, Jenna Hornby. Lorraine will be forever loved, remembered and missed especially by her family. Proverbs 31:25-28. "Strength and honor are her clothingshe looketh well to the ways of her household. Her children arise up and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:25-28. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Franklin Lutheran Church at Folsom.
