Luella J. Stokke, age 96 of Viroqua, died Saturday, March 8, 2008. Luella Julia Stokke, age 96 of Viroqua, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. She was born February 6, 1912 in Wheatland Township to Theodore and Helene (Josvanger) Stokke. She was baptized March 26, 1912 at the old DeSoto Lutheran Church on Powers Hill. Her sponsors were R. Anderson, D. Simonson and Luella Josvanger. She was confirmed in 1925 by Rev. Maggellson. In 1931 she graduated from Central High School in La Crosse. From there she attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She worked in Chicago a number of years and was employed in Milwaukee until her retirement. She was a resident at the Bethel Home in Viroqua, WI since March of 1995. She is survived by one sister: Helen Stokke of Viroqua; nieces and nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Verna Valesh; four brothers: Orlando, Edgar, Earl and Norris Stokke; twin nieces: Karen and Kathryn; brother-in-law: Charles Valesh; two sisters-in-law: Mary and Esther Stokke. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker Street, (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Pastor Libby Howe will officiate with burial in the DeSoto Lutheran Cemetery, rural DeSoto. Friends may call at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Homes of Viroqua and DeSoto is serving the family.
